Improved Safeguarding – Raleigh Academy

The existing boundary wall provided little visual separation from the adjacent public footpath and road. Furthermore, the wall’s height was insufficient, raising safety concerns. Russen & Turner Architectural Design were commissioned by the Academy to design a new boundary wall that focused on three key aspects:
- Safeguarding
- Appearance
- Controlled views into the Academy
The design incorporates facing brickwork and a Screenogril louvre system, which provides 80% screening and 20% visibility. The robust Louvered Fence Panels are securely fused to a steel wire for enhanced security and durability in all conditions. These panels are horizontally fitted and finished with a hot-dipped galvanized polyester powder coating.
The louvre system is connected to the wall and foundation using bespoke cranked posts. Internally, the wall also features a timber picket fence to create a softer environment in the pupil play area. It also provides an opportunity for children and teachers to personalize the teaching and learning spaces by attaching pictures, shapes, and other items to the fencing.
