Keeping up Conservation Appearances

Having won Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent to a listed property in the Conservation Area of Ely, Russen & Turner Architectural Design is currently overseeing the final few weeks in the build process of a contemporary single storey residential extension.

The extension, which includes a new articulated stone wall, lead covered roof, atrium roof window, powder coated aluminium façade and hand-cut imperial bricks provides a bright internal living environment which takes advantage of the gardens south-east orientation.

The new constructed solid wall incorporating quarried barnack stone creates a partially concealed courtyard and enables the extension and heritage asset to co-exist calmly and conformably together.

The 400 year old barn presented a number of technical challenges which included a partially angled foundation to minimise the impact upon the surrounding Listed structure. Paul White of Russen & Turner Architectural Design commented:

We designed every aspect of the superstructure to ensure the extensions living accommodation met exactly with our clients brief and this carefully crafted structure demonstrates a building of high design quality and skilled craftermanship”
